Thailand is the only country where we have been very open and keen to explore different type of foods. Our first trip was in 2005 wherein we visited Bangkok and Pattaya. We took a tour to all sightseeing activities like the Golden Buddha, Royal Palace, Sun temple, Wat Arun the Brahma temple etc. We also took a trip to the Floating village where vegetables, fruits and souvenirs are sold to tourists on boat. You might have seen this kind of setup in several movies shot in Bangkok. There is Gem Market in Bangkok which most of the Tuk Tuk drivers would take you to. Plenty of stones to choose from based on your budgets. There are lots and lots of shopping complex in Bangkok that would suit every budget. This is heaven for the shopaholic ladies. Key souvenirs include Buddha statues and angels along with clothes and gems stones. We got introduced to Foot massages and they are one of a kind experience and highly relaxing. Next up on the list was Pattaya Island which we undertook to enjoy the Beach and also Parasailing.
In one of our several trips, we made a day trip to Athuthaya to view the ruins of the Buddhist temples. Athuthaya is an ancient capital and 85 kms from Bangkok. There are a lot of Buddha statues with and without head here. We also took a trip to Tiger temple to walk around with the Tigers. A unique experience indeed.
On the food side, we loved the spice levels. We have feasted upon Tom Yam, Green, Red and Yellow Curries, Pad Thai and Fried Rice. We were so fond of the food that we took a cooking class in Bangkok. Post all this, Thai food has become a regular in our Kitchen.
We made a recent trip to Chiang Mai to explore the food, the night markets, the Elephant Sanctuary and also visit the White temple at Chiang Rai.
