My Trip Souvenirs
We flew in to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. We visited the largest open African Market, Mercato Market where we found some good souvenirs including African masks and figurines. We tried the Ethiopian coffee as well which is completely different in taste with no bitterness. We bought some coffee powder for home.
We flew in by Ethiopian Airlines to Lalibela a small town. It was a small interesting aircraft as evident by the pictures below. A local guide picked us up and took us to Tukul village. We realised that the time goes very slow in this small town. Surprisingly lot of folks over there knew about Bollywood. We went to a local market where I found flat salts brought all the way from Danakil depression and sold for cattle use. We also visited a monastery and brought some bedsheets which are handmade by the Nuns over there.
We visited quite a few Churches in Lalibela which are very unique and made within the rock. We stayed in Tukul like hotel in Lalibela. In one of the church we came across a large Cross made of 7kg gold which the Priest used to bless the people. I understand this place has a mention in the Bible as well. Finally, We also had a Mule ride to see the landscape around. On the food part, we tried the spongy Injera which is the staple food of Ethiopians.
