My Trip Souvenirs
We visited Lapland, northern part of Finland in early January. We had heard lot about this post cards like place and were very excited to be there. The entire place appears Black and White (as evident from the photos). We went for a home stay so that we could experience Lapland and its people much closer. The second day after arrival, we visited Snow hotel which is made of snow in winter and is a must visit. One could even stay in the night here and get certificate of bravery in extreme harsh conditions. Next stop was for a husky ride. This was the ride of my life at that speed and not seeing the destination clearly. Post this as the weather was very cold may be around -14C, we went to small place to have Berry tea and then proceed to our home stay.
Next day we went to a frozen lake for Ice fishing. We had to drill a hole in the lake and then wait for a fish to pass by :). We gave up after around 20 minutes as it was way too cold in spite of all the thermal wears. By the way, one should take the thermals by rent within Lapland as they are of different kind and more suited to the conditions there. In the evening we went to Santa Claus village where the official Santa Claus resides. This is very much on the Arctic line. One needs to pay around 25+ euros to get pictured with Santa who surprisingly spoke bit of Hindi. We also tried the Lappish style Salmon steak in this village. All kind of souvenirs are found in this village. The only disappointment for us was the Northern Lights.
