Kenya, the country which naturally evokes pictures of the vast plain lands with Giraffes and Elephants was my second destination post coming over to Dubai and indeed one of the rare country for me to visit twice :). We landed in Nairobi and straight away headed to Amboseli Park to view the Kilimanjaro and the Big Five. Kilimanjaro pictures are tricky and not everyone comes out positive on this. We got two moments where it was clearly visible for our Camera. I could only wish some Elephants in front of the imposing mountain !!. We got a chance to see all the Big Five in Amboseli and then started our journey to Masai Mara park with Nairobi stop for a lunch. We went over to a restaurant named Carnivore where you can try different types of Meat BBQ including the Game Meat. We tried the local drink called Dawa before heading to Masai. One goes through the Great Rift valley while going over to Masai. Indeed there is Photo stop to take the Rift Valley.
In Masai on both the occasions we booked Sopa lodge. Some of the dishes catered here are Indian and probably that could be the reason. We also got a chance to try the famous Lamb BBQ named Nyama Choma locally. We had a 4 * 4 with a driver who accompanied us right from the airport till the end. It is important to get a good guide who has good knowledge of the jungle. Our guide made it even more funny by narrating different stories related to animals during our Safari. We were lucky to spot both Leopards and Cheetah who were actually hiding. Apart from that, it was the season of Wildebeest Migration the 8th wonder of the world. We went towards the Mara river to see the crossing. The migration is in millions and it is good to see discipline in different groups made by the Wildebeest while moving from one place to another. There is always a Project Manager in the group to manage the situation. Apart from this, we had a gala time spotting the huge African elephants, Giraffes, Rhino, the Lions and the Wild Buffaloes. I must also admit staying in a Jungle Lodge is an experience in itself listening to different sounds of its citizens in the nights.
Finally, we made a short stop to one of the location of the Masai tribe. I understand they still follow polygamy and indeed have big family. A fence is built around their mud based temporary shelters to protect from animals. We had guided tour of the same before proceeding way back home. One can also register on Katokenya.org website to get quotes of various Jungle lodges and packages based on what they would like to do and the budgets. Jambo Kenya.
