We started the twin trip of Portugal and Spain for the new year with arrival in Lisbon. Lisbon is a city full of historic monuments and importance as evident from our Social Studies back home. Remember Vasco da Gamas trip to India !! Lisbon also has a bridge named after him and stretches 16kms over River Tagus. Public transport is well covered in Lisbon with metro and the yellow Trams.
We saw the Discovery monument which is homage to all the discoverers across the world, the ancient military Belem tower and the Christ status similar to the one in Rio de Janeiro all within a day. In the evening we spent on the banks of River Tagus watching the sunset near the Belem tower. Next day early morning we took a trip to Obidos, a small town specialising in Cherry based wines and picturesque settings along a Fort. We spent quite a lot of time tasking Cherry wine in Chocolate based containers for 1 Euro each and taking in plenty of pictures of the beautiful houses around. In the evening, we spent time across one of the Atlantic beach on the way. The final day was reserved for Sintra which is a short drive from Lisbon and its beautiful fairy tale like Castles. You need to do some homework on the Castle you like to visit as each one is different from the other. I am sure all the pictures of Castles and Obidos below speak for themselves
